For a romantic weekend near Carcassonne, the easiest option is to stay somewhere quiet in the countryside, 15 minutes from the Cité, with a hot tub all to yourselves. We have two, open day and night all year round: the Cocon de Lenny and the Cocon des Oiseaux.

Where to stay as a couple with a private hot tub?

Our two places with a private hot tub are perfect for a couple: you arrive in the evening, slip into the hot water, and nobody comes to share it. Both are less than 20 minutes from Carcassonne by car, with free parking: in front of the chalet at the Oiseaux, at the door or in the street at Lenny.

The Cocon de Lenny, a hot tub between stone walls

The Cocon de Lenny is a charming flat in a former wine estate building in Conques-sur-Orbiel. Its professional hot tub is indoors, beneath a stone wall and a skylight, next to the bedroom. It has its own private courtyard and reversible air conditioning: it is the most comfortable choice in winter.

The Cocon des Oiseaux, a hot tub under the stars

The Cocon des Oiseaux is a 36 m² chalet in the countryside, in Ventenac-Cabardès. Its hot tub is outdoors, under a wooden pergola lit up in the evening, with no one overlooking you. In the warmer months, a shared saltwater pool with a slide completes the stay.

Without a hot tub: a suite at Maison Büdda

If you prefer a guest house, the Bonbon and Lemon Green suites at Maison Büdda are made for two, from €70 per night with no cleaning fee, with an indoor pool in an old stone barn, heated from about March to October, and a homemade breakfast on request.

Our weekend idea, from Friday to Sunday

Arrive on Friday evening, keep Saturday for Carcassonne and Sunday for the countryside. This pace leaves time for the hot tub, which is rather the point.

• Friday evening: arrival between 5 pm and 8 pm, first soak, quiet evening.
• Saturday: the medieval Cité, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, ideally early in the morning or at the end of the day, when the visitors have gone and the ramparts light up. In the afternoon, a stroll along the Canal du Midi, also a UNESCO site, in the lower town.
• Sunday: Montolieu, the book village, and its bookshops, or the four castles of Lastours at the foot of the Montagne Noire. Back to the property for one last soak: check-out is before 10 am.

The best time to come

All year round. In spring and autumn, the region is mild and quiet. In summer, the Cité is very busy during the day, but the evenings remain magical, and the fireworks over the Cité on 14 July are a sight to see once.
