Carcassonne with kids: a holiday home with a pool
Published on 26 October 2026 by Escapades Cocooning

For a family holiday near Carcassonne, choose an entire house with a pool in the countryside: the children have space, the parents have peace and quiet, and the Cité is 15 minutes away. The Cocon d'Ava, with its private pool for 10 guests, is our most family-friendly house.
Which house to choose with children?
It all depends on the size of the family. From 4 to 10 guests, we have an entire house, or a family suite in our guest house.
The Cocon d'Ava, for up to 10 guests
The Cocon d'Ava is a 130 m² family home in Conques-sur-Orbiel. Its private pool is in an enclosed garden, not overlooked. For days at home: a pétanque court, table football and a pool table. Three bedrooms and a mezzanine sleep up to 10 guests. The pool is not heated: it is the perfect summer house.
Maison Archi and its pool with a slide, from April 2027
Maison Archi, a 1980s architect-designed house in Ventenac-Cabardès, sleeps 7. Its shared saltwater pool has a slide that children love. It can be booked from 1 April 2027.
The family suites at Maison Büdda
In our guest house, the Sunset and Good Vibes suites are 36 m² and sleep 4, with the indoor pool and the garden, where a hut awaits the children under the olive trees. For a family reunion, the whole house can be booked for up to 12 people, on quotation.
What to do in Carcassonne with children?
The medieval Cité is a playground in itself: ramparts, towers and cobbled lanes. Aude Tourisme and the tourist office recommend several activities designed for families.
- The Château Comtal: a real fortified castle, recommended from 8 or 9 years old.
- The little train of the Cité: a tour of the ramparts with commentary for all ages.
- The treasure hunt: a game box to pick up at the tourist office, to discover the Cité as a family.
- The medieval camp: free workshops in the heart of the Cité, with demonstrations of medieval crafts.
- The School Museum: a school from the old days, where children still write with a dip pen.
And around Carcassonne?
To let off steam, the Lac de la Cavayère, very close to Carcassonne, has beaches, a treetop adventure course, inflatable water games and a cable wakeboard park. The Australian park, the giant chasm of Cabrespine, the Nougalet chocolate factory in Trèbes or a mini-cruise on the Canal du Midi complete the week. For a day towards the sea, the Sigean African Reserve is about an hour away.
We also share our guide to the region with our guests.
